J.A. Topf & Soehne, Erfurt - Crematories for Auschwitz
Welcome to the virtual tour of the industrial area of company Topf & Soehne. This page should give you a general idea of the way in which Topf & Soehne was entangled with the politics of mass extermination in national-socialist germany.
During the period of National-socialism in Germany J. A. Topf & Soehne produced crematories as well as parts of the gas chambers for concentration- and extermination camps, thus making it possible to put the antisemitic extermination program into action.
The former headquarter of the company is located in Erfurt and today it is a deserted industrial area.
This area was squatted by a group of leftist, antifascist people in april 2001. In april 2009 the squat was evicted by the police.
All buildings on the area were teared down by the new owner, except the former administrative building. The new owner wants to build apartment houses and a shopping market on the area. The former administrative building will be used for a historical place, which should be finished in 2011.
The tour shows the places where the combustion furnaces were developed and manufactured. It is possible to view the current condition and, when available, the historical condition of the buildings.
